Jane McNeill - MDes(RCA), BA (Hons), MCSD - Director
Jane studied Product Design at Glasgow School of Art and graduated in 1986 with a First Class Honours Degree, the Bank of Scotland Prize for Innovative Design and proud holder of the Newberry Medal, (awarded to the top graduating student). A further two years of post-graduate study in Industrial Design was undertaken at the Royal College of Art in London – a fellow student on the course being Simon Crompton.
The key gain from the RCA was the ability to think through and develop a range of conceptual ideas and approaches and to have the ability to take on board and react appropriately to a variety of points of view. These capabilities were and are key to the success of Symbiosis and our ability to start and grow a successful and vibrant, creative design studio. After all, any multi-media or web-based solution requires the often divergent needs of both end users and client to be taken into consideration.
Jane’s core skills have evolved over the years and have included hands-on experience and knowledge for every aspect of the new media and web based solutions we offer.
Symbiosis was started in 1992 and originally specialised in the provision of Mac based 3D visualisation and animation services using Zoom and Electric Image. As the capabilities of computers and software improved, we expanded to meet the needs of our predominantly corporate client base to include video production and ultimately, the creation and supply of full-blown, highly visual, interactive solutions. Our training division was started in 1996 in response to the need for 'skills transfer' to our corporate clients and ultimately replaced our full-service, studio services.

Today, Symbiosis exists as two core activities – Symbiosis Training - our authorised Apple and Adobe training centre, and Symbiosis Distribution .
Since our formation, Symbiosis has remained in joint and equal ownership by Jane McNeill and Simon Crompton .
